    UK - Vehicle tax changes

It's getting closer and more information has been issued...

From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle. If you have a tax disc with any months left to run after this date, then it can be removed from the vehicle and destroyed. This includes customers with a Northern Ireland address, however they will still need to display their MoT disc.

It's surprising how few people are aware of this. Told my Mum about it last week and she was totally oblivious to it.

My current tax runs out on the 30th of this month, so ties in quite well with it.

They are doing the same thing here in Australia, although we call them the Rego Label.

In every state that has so far done it, there has been a huge increase in the number of unregistered vehicles detected. Because there is now no label a lot of people think they wont get caught, but now the police have these cameras that scan all the vehicles on the road & the camera sends data back & instantly detects an unregistered vehicle.

We have license plate recognition everywhere (fixed at the roadside and on Police cars), you wouldn't be able to drive too far without getting flagged and a fine or vehicle seizure.

We've known about it for months, our current license runs out end of January so then we'll be able to pay by monthly payments, that will make it easier on the finances. :)
