Until someone smart replies. You are thinking of a core as being one unit, when it fact a core is made up of multiple units. Without hyperthreading, all units may not be utilized, or underutilized. With hyperthreading, the units are broken into two groups, each doing it's own job. The hyperthreaded core would generally not be as fast as 2 actual cores, but if the units are not all being used, hyperthreading makes better use of them. A Guy
