Great video that I hadn't seen before. I remember being let out of school to watch this event (1 of the 500 million). It has stayed with me all my life and I think Neil Armstrong showed how much of a cool headed professional he was.
The famous photo was of Buz Aldrin because Armstrong had the mounted camera. Although the Command module and in particular the LEM had primitive computers this was Neil Armstrong's main computing device.

Australia played an important even pivotal role in communicating this event.

I was 8. We all watched it. I can remember looking up at the moon and thinking "there are men up there"...

With all the scifi and CGI, people today cannot understand what a remarkable feat that was, and remains.

I was 18 and graduated from high school that year, Woodstock was 3weeks away; We all watched the Moon walk on a 19" Zenith Black & White TV.
I get the same way Bill does when I see the ISS fly over, there's people up there, and I wish we had never stopped going to the Moon.

There were certainly perils, does anyone remember the broken circuit breaker switch?

Buzz Aldrin wasn't the first to "McGuyver" a solution to a difficult problem, but his use of a felt-tip pen to activate a broken circuit breaker to enable the Eagle to blast off from the moon surely ranks as one of the most dramatic.

I was about 20 at the time and remember as well. While hotwiring the Eagle was pretty cool, what I found strange was after they realized they may be stranded on the moon, they decided to go to sleep. True they didn't get much sleep, but if it were me, I think sleeping would have been the last thing on my mind. That must be the height of maintaining your composure under stress.
