20-30 minutes install time mine is internet connected and doesn't take any more than 15 minutes to install from scratch.

Disconnect Your Network

I just installed the latest WTP build as a clean install in a VM.
I didn't see the choice to use a local account during the install, so i used my MS Outlook account.
Guess i didn't look hard enough

I'd like to know how to install with a local account !
If i can clean up a HD, i plan to install WTP as a bare metal install.

I can say the clean install performs much better than my prior WTP VM that was updated a few times to the latest version.
Like all new "improved" operating systems, the option is hidden behind several layers clicking (and misleading links).

The easiest way is, disconnect your network before you start installing W10 and not to reconnect it until you actually login to the desktop.

I probably overstated the install shaving,
A sum-up is a Hell of allot faster than connected to the internet

I'm thinking that most people in the world don't have the speed and band width that Mr. Fairbrother has.

It took longer to burn the disc than it did to install TBH, long ways from XP installs that used to take upwards of 45 minutes to install.

Well if you think about it,
The install does not have to connect to the Live servers to verify an email address and password,
It also doesn't have to sign you into all of the preloaded services
So the spinning wheel is shortened quite a bit for us mere mortal on pretty much dsl

Beside I use the custom install anyway and uncheck allot of items that are checked search.....
Also it's the fastest way to be directed to a local account and that's the real point,
Yea sure you still have to get a third party driver and any offered win updates but at least it streamlines one process the basic install.

You asked so I will give my feelings about the progression of bad OSs from Microsoft.
Windows 8 and 10 will never get on my computer even if I am forced to got to Linux.
IMHO you don't count and they would rather be an advertising mill.
That's not IMHO what COMPUTERS are for.
Since I no longer go on the Windows 10 forum, I am unable specifically answer what
can or cannot be omitted from the Windows 10 disaster.

This monopolistic activity has been going on in Microsoft for many years so I wouldn't
hold my breath for any changes.

In my Opinion, Windows 7 is the greatest home OS ever. There will be no OS no matter how hard MS may try would be able to replace it.
There is no need for cloud integration either. The average home user will never need to access the cloud anyway. Personal assistant integration for a desktop OS is pretty useless. I never found either Cortana/Siri useful in phones either.
Screaming commands to them always feels a bit awkward. All an average PC user will need is a reliable OS which pretty much gets all their simple tasks such as internet browsing and creating documents, playing games etc. done quickly and without any hassle. Considering all this, Windows 10 won't be a great improvement over Windows 8 except having the ability to adjust the Start Screen and a few other cloud stuff. In fact a user having Windows 7 is able to do everything that any Windows 10 user would be able to.
