I wish I could type faster and I've been wondering if you actually would get better speed with one of those Cherry MX switches, though I don't know if that would be considered cheating?
It will, if you are gonna buy an Cherry MX keyboard, buy a keyboard with the red switches. Don't ever buy the blue ones.
Don't worry at all, i forgot to put why. I've seen very very very bad reviews online about the Cherry MX Blue switches, for example that it kills your stamina and more.
That is funny, I have two Das 4 Pro keyboards with blue switches and I think they are great.
Some great information on mechanical keyboards and the switch colors.
How the switches (keys) feel and sound.
How to Choose the Best Mechanical Keyboard (and Why You'd Want To)
If one doesn't know what switches (keys) they like the best you can get this little goodie to test with.

I did many of hours of research before choosing my keyboards. I'm not a gamer so I didn't have a need for a gamer keyboard. I was looking for a typing keyboard.
Go figure a keyboard to type with. What a novel idea.
All seriousness aside. I'm the same way. Even though my idea of gaming is playing MS Pinball once every two or three months, I got a gaming key board (not mechanical, though) because illuminated keys have characters on the keycaps that are molded in instead of being decals that quickly wear off (because of my ADHD, I need those characters on the key caps) and for the macro keys.
