Boom prices going up
Netflix prices will increase for 17 million users next month - Houston Chronicle

About 17 million people who are basically the hipsters of streaming ("I was Netflixing before it was cool") will have to start paying the same as the rest of us soon.

The users who are grandfathered into an $8 per month, two-stream HD subscription will be charged $10 starting in May. But Business Insider says a lot of people don't know this will happen.

AT&T charging extra for unlimited U-verse Internet [Updated] - TechBlog

AT&T charging extra for unlimited U-verse Internet [Updated]

And Comcast customers, donít feel too smug. Youíve got an unenforced data cap in Houston of 300 gigabytes, but in other markets Comcast has been charging $30 for unlimited data. And in some markets, it has set up usage-based tiers, similar to smartphone Internet plans. Donít be surprised to see Comcast follow AT&Tís lead here.
Iíve asked Comcast if AT&Tís move means theyíll start charging for unlimited data in Houston. Iíll let you know what they say.
Update: I heard back from a local Comcast spokesman. Hereís his response:
More and more media and entertainment consumption is going mobile and online, which is why we continue to look for new and innovative ways to make our products and services available in this space, whether itís TV Everywhere, with thousands of hours of On Demand content and nearly 90 networks available live to customers anywhere, anytime on any device, or our new Stream offering. With that said, no data use trials have been announced for Houston.

Interesting. My plan, which is $9/month(I only signed up last year) for HD and covers 2 devices, is "guaranteed" to remain at that price until October under my current plan. Time will tell if they keep to that. I can live with $2/month more(this is still a lot cheaper than DirecTV) but if they up my cost in May and violate their word they'll hear from me.

Not surprising is that this happened not long after Hulu introduced their costlier ad-free plan.

Yep internet only contracts are getting a lot more popular since streaming is becoming a normal way around wild pricing in bundled t.v. services.

Get you anyway they can for as much as they can.

I'm with SKY and I pay £65 per month roughly around $90 and honestly more then 70% of channels I do not watch at all. Mostly because it doesn't appeal to me. I'm happy with the sports channels along with the documentary channels. If only there was a provider out there that could cater for your individual viewing needs.

I've been rolling with Netflix now for a good while, mostly because of the UHD content, in which I believe will be increasing this year. And with HDR making a hit onto the scene, UHD will be even more pleasurable to the eye.
