    I was under the impression that MS was not going to be having a RC releases for Windows 7. I might be mistaken but I thought I read that somewhere.

    they are going with only one "public" RC (as there is a RC branch an of course different RC builds...) and then straight to RTM

    Maybe you're thinking of a second beta...that's what they're not going to have.

    7100 and up is not an RC version, it is microsofts way of separating prerelease versions from RTM Versions (7000-7099 is beta or RC, 7100+ is RTM development versions)

    You're almost correct. 7101 and up are indeed RTM builds. However, 7100 was reserved for RC and now is a reality.
