Windows 7: ebay & Windows7 keys

ebay & Windows7 keys

I kinda feel sorry for the folks who are going to be taken in by listings which offer to sell them an activation key by itself (which the Windows 7 Eula prohibits...) that the sellers claim is valid, and can be used to download a copy of Windows7 from Microsofts online store...

A couple of days ago I reported about a dozen such listings to eBay and the Vero rep' for Microsoft in the United Kingdom - and nothing's been done, but I see almost every listing in question has resulted in a transaction happening

Reporting these listings was just an experiment to see just how little eBay care about intellectual property, but why on earth don't they act when all these clandestine sales can possibly result in are credit card chargebacks and Paypal disputes?

I'm not sure who are the biggest schmucks, the buyers or the sellers...

There are also pre-activated versions, which are warez hacked and packed downloads and torrents, burned to DVD-R's... sheesh... there may be a genuine photo of a retail package, but there are also pictures of a few homemade disks...

Don't buy them; it is a waste of your money. They are MSDN or TechNet Keys. If the person gets busted for selling the keys all keys will be blocked by Microsoft. Microsoft states very clearly you CANNOT sell the keys. If you buy them you will not know when they will be blocked it may take for 3 to 6 months and then it is too late to file a claim on eBay or PayPal, plus without tracking back to where you purchased them Microsoft will not help you through the piracy program.

We've all done it. I once went through a painful registration process to reply on another forum... When I got up to the point of submitting, I realised it was 4 years old...
Surely, forums should lock threads after at least a year of inactivity.

The schmucks are the sellers. But I don't feel sorry for the buyers either. People need to think about why something might be cheap. There is often a reason for it.

I don't buy things on eBay for this very reason. I don't trust people. In my limited opinion, these people are simply out to make a fast buck and they aren't taking mine.

I don't get what's wrong with necromancy. I mean, an old and interesting debate can surely deserve some continuation, right?
