Spacecraft Sees Spectacular Solar Eclipse on Moon

There was a solar eclipse earlier this month — but it wasn't visible anywhere on Earth.

Rather, a Japanese space probe in orbit around the moon got spectacular high-definition video of the sun being blocked — by the Earth, producing an otherworldly "diamond-ring" eclipse.

Yup, I saw it , SpaceWeather emailed me with the event.

Nice one, I guess spacecrafts around earth can do that anytime, they just have to fly to the right place....

Unfortunately for us on Earth, the event is very rare and there won't be one at least visible from Greece for the next 25 years....

Here's an exposed photo from the latest total eclipse visible in Kastelorizo, Greece

If you guys like this kind of stuff you should bookmark Astronomy Picture of the Day, a NASA site:

    http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/

It's down at the moment, but usually never.

I've had that as my home page for years. Sometimes repetitive over that period of time, but some great space pics.
