Arctic Silver 5? Hi.
Last week I took my laptop apart to give it it's first good clean since buying it, and god did it need it because the amount of crap that had built up was like a felt strip across the mail vent.
So when I was in CCL last week I bought a little tube of AS5, but when I've searched this morning to see how best to apply it, discovered that it's not adhesive as such, well at all, and wondered if it will make a difference? | My System Specs |

No. It's not adhesive, because it's not glue
Any adhesion comes from usage once the heatsink is back on. It takes a little while to 'cure' compared to some other compounds.
It's still regarded as one the better Thermal pastes. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number SmartEyeball Custom Systems OS 8 Pro x64 CPU i7 3770K 4.6GHz Motherboard ASUS P8Z77 WS (great board good slot placement) Memory 16GB G.Skill Trident X 2400mhz Graphics Card 2x Gigabyte GTX 670 OC WindForce SLI Sound Card X-FI Forte 7.1 + ATH-AD900 Headphones Monitor(s) Displays x3 Dell U2410 / 58" Samsung / "40 Sony Screen Resolution 1920*1200 / 1920*1080 Keyboard Topre Realforce // Ducky Shine MX Black // Filco Ninja TKL Mouse Razer Imperator + Thermaltake Theron PSU Corsair AX1200W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Noctua NH-D14 Hard Drives 2x Intel 520 240GB (RAID 0) * 2x WD Caviar Blacks 2TB (RAID 0) * 2TB WD Caviar Black Antivirus MSE Browser Opera, Chrome, FF Other Info GT Extreme V2 Sim Racing Cockpit + 40" LCD and K/B Mouse stand ▼

as5 should be applied as a small rice grain size to the centre of the cpu,it is only a paste ,the ceramic is better if you apply too much thermal paste it can actually have the opposite effect | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self build OS win 7 ultimate CPU amd phenom x4 9600 Motherboard asus m2n32-sli deluxe Memory corsair twinxs 2x2gb Graphics Card 2x nvidia 1gb 8500gt Sound Card onboard Monitor(s) Displays 19" lg ring tft PSU oryxx tornado 750w Case thermaltake xaser lll Cooling artic freezer64 pro + 7 case fans Hard Drives maxtor sata 500gb

I have used the grain method, and also spread it with an old credit card.
Outcome was the same. Need to ensure you clean the cpu and heatsink thoroughly before use. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home build OS Win7 Ultimate x64 CPU 3820 Motherboard Rampage IV formula Memory 12 GB kit Graphics Card XFX nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Sound Card On board card Monitor(s) Displays LG 27" x 2 Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Wave Pro Mouse Logitech PSU 875W Thermal Take Case Antec P160W Cooling Noctua Hard Drives 1 x OCZ Vertex 4 , 256Gb Internet Speed 1.5 Mb Other Info Logitech G25 steering wheel, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick.

Well I've put some on, so will just see how it goes. The attachment is how it looked before, I didn't take an after though. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony Vaio FZ21Z OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 ®™ CPU Intel Core 2 Duo (2.2 GHz) Motherboard Sony (Intel Chipset) Memory 2x 2GB Corsair (667 MHz) Graphics Card NVIDIA 8600M GS (256MB) Sound Card Sigmatel Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" TFT X-Black Screen Resolution 1280x800 Mouse Logitech Anywhere MX Hard Drives Western Digital 300GB Scorpio Black (7200rpm) Internet Speed Sky 5MB |

AS5 might not be glue, but it sticks like blit to a shanket...
I prefer Ceramiqué as performance is just as good, and disassembly is easier... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Lenovo USB laser "Thinkpad" Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Crucial M4 SSD, archives on twin Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX, 2TB, 7200rpm HDD's, Samsung Ritemaster CD/DVD Burner... on a side note
I came across a test site claiming toothpaste is a pretty good conductor - not for general use but if it is an emergency situation it will work nicely 'til you got the real stuff. http://www.dansdata.com/goop.htm | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS Win7 x86 CPU PhenomII x2 550 (unlocked 4 cores) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Memory 2x 2GB Kingston 1333 Graphics Card Gigabyte HD4850 1GB Sound Card onboard Realtek Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 2233 Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard MS Digital Media 3000 Mouse MS Mouse 3000 PSU Corsair 620 Case Armor MX+ Cooling all stock Hard Drives 2x WD 512GB green sata2 Internet Speed adsl2+ Arctic Silver 5? problems?
