Alot of them are people who are looking for help and are linked here by search engines...
They may never sign up since what they need help with is solved....
Wouldn't they have to be on the forum for a certain amount of time to appear as Guests, I mean if you come as a result of google search, you be in and out in a matter of seconds. It wouldn't be enough time surely?
It may be on a time out type deal.
They come in,
And the session stays active for a few minutes....
Were's John or Brink.
Im sure they would know more about that because im not sure how there forums are setup :)
But on my forums, Which is a dead project now.
Each IP had a session timer if it didn't do anything after a few minutes the session dropped.
Think of the bandwidth needed to keep an open session with each connection.
A few 100 people with a 1kbs stream can add up....
its a shame they dont sign up really...... this is a great resource technically (& socially :)).
they dont know what they're missing lads....
Agreed,
I have met so many great people here.
We need to hold a conference in some place...
An no I don't think MS would like it if we camped out in there parking lot for a few days :)
Those figures are fine by me, people that want to contribute will sign up and take part, the rest can view as a guest (with ads) and pay the bills.
This site uses just under 2TB of data transfer per month and the only way we can pay that is by having a high number of guests (members use lots more bandwidth & resources), and for that reason I dont try to get the lurkers that wouldn't take part anyway to sign up.
2TB is heaps for what it currently is. At the end of the day i suppose you're right John. The main concern is keeping this site afloat.
A toast to W7 and SevenForums!
