    Away we go ........ again

    Gateway - Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor - NightSky Black - NV7802U

    what I wanted ( core 2 duo ) $599.99

    Gateway - Laptop with Intel® Core™ i3 Processor - NightSky Black - NV7915u

    what I want ( i3-330M ) $599.99

Can anyone please advise me on the chip - core 2 duo and the new i3 330M ( comes on the updated rig )

the i3 is a speed of 2.13 and the duo is 2.2
the i3 has a frontside of 1066mhz and the duo is 800mhz
the video memory for the i3 is only 128MB (dedicated)
the duo is "Up to 1759MB (Intel® Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0)"

    what would you buy?

    thanks all,
    Carmine

Actually you can pick either one...they both are going to be extremely similar in performance. However I would go with the newer i3.

And i believe 128mb dedicated video memory is always better then shared.

I agree. This one Gateway - Laptop with Intel® Core™ i3 Processor - NightSky Black - NV7915u uses one of the latest processors, and dedicated graphics memory is better than shared.

    For full comparisons, see links.

    NV7802u
    NV7915u

There are some alternative models in the same series here NV Series What is your absolute upper price limit?

I read some benchmarks on this. If your just using integrated graphics, the i3 is the processor of choice. It provides better graphics performance, and in som instances double your battery life.

Just go with a AMD processor. They are yesterday's hardware with today's improvements. Intel is a good brand and they do have very powerful, great processors but you can get some of the same power for cheaper if you go with AMD.

Yes, I agree with him. You can go for AMD if you want a cheaper brand with the same performance. AMD also has a good place in the market !
