    WIFI Telephone Activity

An off the wall question (literally, since the telephone is wall mounted). I have a wireless telephone that has worked normally for over a year, but 3 or 4 days ago, I noticed the screen lighting up on both of the receivers simutaneously, when no incoming call was occuring.

I thought this might be due to some neighbor's telephone being on the same frequency or something else interfering, but forgot about it, because it didn't happen again, until a few minutes ago. An actual incoming call rang, which I didn't recognize, thus didn't answer, but maybe about a minute after the caller hungup, the screen started lighting up as before. I pushed the button and got a dial tone, so it wasn't anyone calling out.

I think that there is a way to cause it to use a different frequency, but I will have to go hunting the manual, which I don't think that I have read since the phone was new, so there no telling where it may be.

I'm just wondering if there is anything that I haven't thought of that might account for this, besides a faulty transmitter?

More info about your phone would be helpful. What frequency/type of phone? My limited understanding is that you may have interference from other wi-fi sources in your home or others depending on distance. Telephones that are DECT 6.0 are supposed to play better with 2.4/5.8 frequency phones.

It is a GE Dect 6.0. I don't remember if there is a particular model #. I think that it is 5.8 on frequency. If the problem is with some WIFI device, it is not mine, but then I live in a complex with thin walls, so it could be a neighbor's.

The DECT 6.0 are supposed to be good. I see a lot of "refurbs" of the GE phones. Maybe you got a lemon, or maybe they are all lemons?

I originally meant to say DECT 6.0 phones play better with "Wi-Fi", not 2.4/5.8 phones.

Can you return it, or is it too late? Look for phones with good (great) ratings.

Definitely too late for a return. I'm not convinced that there is anything wrong with the phone yet. Obviously, the problem has nothing to do with the receivers, because they all act the same. If there is a problem, it would have to be with the transmitter. Even now, the phones work perfectly, except for the recent behavior mentioned.
