    Should I finance a dell laptop ?

    Hey,

I'm in need of a new laptop soon, and I can't wait much longer so I may look into purchasing a laptop online from dell, then financing it.

My question is, what would be the pros and cons in taking this route ? Currently Dell is offering a promotion of No Interest for 12 months on approved credit.

If I don't qualify for their financing, would I still be able to pay for it, or will I be able to cancel my order ?

What has your experience been like with Dell, If any ?

    Thanks

i think the approval is instant. most mainstream vendors offer financing as well as many retailers so check your options before you commit.

Dell Financing is pretty good. I personally had a a couple XPS desktop financed from them, there finance program is great, they let you know if your approve instantly over the phone once you place an order.

As far as the laptop goes...which one were you looking to get?

I have worked for Dell tech support for over 2yrs. For novice users, Dell is a good choice. But I will never prefer a Dell as it comes bloated with many pre-installed software.

Some of the software they actually give you aren't bad, they do come in handy sometimes

I was looking at getting the XPS 16 Laptop, hopefully configured pretty well.

I know that when you finance you end up paying more than what it's actually worth but one more question.

Say the laptop costs 2000 and I pay monthly payments every month of say : $65 for 48 months. Let's say after 6 months, I decide to pay the rest off in full, would I be paying the $2000 or $65 X 6 = $390

or would they deduct $390 from the $2000 seeing how I already paid it during the first 6 months ?

lol I've never financed anything before so I'm new to this.

    Thanks guys

I just bought a studio xps 16 with the i7-820QM, 8gb memory and a 128Gb SSD. Fastest laptop I've ever used, but too big to carry around. Absolutely worth it though

If you do finance, Always read the fine print. no interest for 12mo's is good, but if you miss a payment or dont pay it off in full before the 12 mo's is up, the interest for the 12mo time period for full purchase can be applied (and is usually high example: 20% on 2000 is $400). Just make sure you check this is usually how it works.

I have also had to change my payment structure with one financer a while ago, because it put the final payment due after the 6mo mark, which would have added interest for the whole purchase, so even if they set you up with a mo.payment due, make sure it wont do this.....

Also! It is a good Idea to make sure they include the Reinstall Discs for the OS and Drivers. Dell should, but some don't or they require you to purchase it for $20. Otherwise, you will want to make a reinstall disc at home manually. I only state this, because they might not tell you that it doesn't have the discs.
