    18 years of Windows evolution...

Got finally Windows 3.1 installed on a VirtualBox virtual machine, could not get it to work properly on Windows Virtual PC. It hijacked the CPU, making host machine totally unresponsive but luckily it runs just fine on VirtualBox.

Here's a screenshot of that IMO first "modern" Windows, published on March 1992:

And then Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista running (quite) smoothly at the same time:

Sometimes it's fun just to play!

I notice the Windows flag starts of in motion, and ending in a stationary position...well it sort of morphed to being in W7.

Aren't computers interesting. You can do all kinds of neat things with them. It have to be fun getting all the old Windows versions running. Never tried Win 3.xx, albeit have gotten from 95 to present including all the NT version.

    Good Work Keri. . .

That is really cool. You opened up some memories for me. I got quite proficient with Win 3.1 and 3.2 and created some really good DOS batch files. In fact the base I was on adopted my menu batch files base wide.

I like 3.1 so much, I never installed 95. I went to 98 when it came out. I also skipped ME and went to XP.

Kari, have you tried to find a working version of Central Point Software Tools for Win 3.xx. It was one of my favorite tools for 3.xx. It had an excellent Windows customization application included. Called my brother in-law the other day to see if he still had his copy, darn he through out of his 3.xx applications a couple of months ago. Guess I'll have to try old windows sites; also looking for a copy of MS Office 4.3.

    Heh CPS tools rocked

I loved 95 when it came out, preemptive multitasking and memory protection were MAJOR improvements, took Apple YEARS to get them and only by switching to an entirely different OS core that they didn't weven write.

But there were a lot of CPS tools features that I sorely missed in the switchover.

Here it is, running. Incredible nostalgic feeling to play with it! This version I found is a bit comical: it is fully English, except menus are in Spanish!
