Google to test ultrafast broadband to the home.

Google, never satisfied with the pace of change, plans a test that will provide 50,000 to 500,000 people with fiber-optic broadband Internet access with a network speed of a gigabit per second starting as soon as this year.

Now why would anyone want speeds like this. I can think of people that would benefit and the mpaa would not be happy at all!

which is quite happy running on dialup so again the question is why do you need a gigabit?

personally, id like to see upload speeds increased a bit.... i quite happy with my "up to 24Mb" connection which is the fastest you can get over a phone line over here, but we're still stuck on 445kbps upload speeds! id love to be able to set up a server so i can access my stuff from wherever i am, but with that sort of upload speed its not worth it, download speeds are fast enough for now, give us more upload

Not if you don't have anyone to to chat with...

I personally still prefer "old fashioned e-mail" - the instant message stuff is kind of annoying.

(Particularly my neighbour, who I hear messages going off all day, every day through his stereo. At least change the damn default message notify sound MATT!)

What are the chances of him reading that? haha.

I still want fast internet, so stuff i download is much quicker.

There's no such thing as "My internet's too fast"
