i don't think im materialistic, sure i like having nice things like my gadgets, shiny cars and a nice house but i feel that i've worked hard and invested when many people my age were busy ruining their credit so i deserve it. yes material things make me happy, no they are not the most important things in my life.

Everyone is kind of materialistic, our sociaties are made like that, to make you "fall in love" with things, there always will be something that we want, and when we'll have it, then you'll see on tv, newspaper or whatever, that newer, better thing is out there, our thing will be outdated soon, so we wanna have to replace it, or we will find something else that we are interested in, new hobby maybe...new thing to spent money at, and to spent money, we have to earn them first...so always is like, it isn't enough...In some cases, we MUST be materialistic, for our family care...countless reasons why we always need more money...family, fun, show of...choose. And yes, money aren't the most important thing in our lives, but are making our lives much easier and happier. At least that's my opinion.
    cheers

no i can tell you from being here some people are completely happy with their 10 year old computers and think the idea of upgrading is outrageous and highway robbery.

If I was materialistic, I would be depressed about what I do and don't have, and I'd probably end up drowning my sorrows in Jim Beam again. So I guess that, even though there are some things I want, I'm happy with what I have, after all. After all, I'm not sleeping under a bridge.

I'm not speaking just for upgrading PCs and all that, when I'm saying that money can make our lives easier and happier, I mean, we would be more happier if we can pay the bills, pay for our house, for the car... Have enough money to live as a decent human beings. Majority of people would like to have (buy) something that is not necessary to have, ok, that doesn't make as materialistic, but it is connected with money...In this world, today, (almost) everything begins and ends with money. Why when we are choosing (if we have the opportunity) where to work, majority will choose the employer that pays more money? Is that making as materialistic? Or we want to have just "enough" money for decent life? As I said, (almost) everything begins and ends with money. That's how world works in this days, and there is little we can do about that.

I guess I am materialistic. I cannot leave the house without my ipod or phone. the other gadget is a bit to big and a bit too expensive to take with me.

You need to move to Texas. Everybody has a gun. If you have $100 and a clean record, you can get a Concealed Hand Gun Permit and carry your own around town.

People say that it would be impossible to brainwash whole nations, I beg to differ, and you need only look at materialism to see that.
