how to control a computer via ethernet?

Hi,
I have built a little mini computer inside a vcr player. I want to be able to plug in into my laptop via ethernet and control it. How can I do this? This means that i want to be able to see what i would usually see on a screen on my laptop from as soon as it turns on (not once its loaded into windows).

Welcome!

I don't think this is possible without using remote desktop software. If you have Professional or above, you can use the built-in Remote Desktop program, or you can use a third-party app like Teamviewer.

If there is a way to do what you want, I am eager to learn it myself.

Hope this helps,
~JK

Hi,
I was thinking of connecting my laptop (windows 7) to my vcr pc (xp) together. The only problem about using teamviewer is that I need to access it while booting. It may still suite my needs. I will post a picture of the pc to show you what I have done to it.

I made it because who in the world would steal a vcr player?
I also soldered the power button jumpers on the motherboard to the play button on the vcr player. Now i can press play and the computer turns on.
Here it is:

it could be . Although I need to control it. IF i could just get the computer to boot into windows without we looking at the screen then i could use teamviewer.

You could also use Remote Desktop. Just set it so that it logs in automatically.

Yes, XP has Remote Desktop, but just like Windows 7 and Vista, only the Professional and higher editions support hosting. You can connect to another machine running a higher edition with a home version, but you cannot connect to a machine running a home version.
