OMG I've been O'Reillyed.
Although the google toilet is funny, googles approach to our information is scary.
Tier 1
For instance if you just use google as a search provider then they know everything you search for and keep your ip associated with that information for 9 months.
Tier 2
You use them as a search provider and use the google chrome browser. They now know everything you search for and any typed website addresses. Scary
Tier 3
You use them as a search provider, use their browser and use them as an email provider. You have now given them access to your emails as well and also if you entered the correct information when signing up, they now have your name, age and address to go along with all your browsing habits.
If you are a tier 3 user then google knows everything about your online activities. Why anyone wants to give that much information to 1 company il never know My advice is stay clear of google if you value your privacy.
P.S if you really dont value your privacy the sign up for google buzz lol
Before our white brothers arrived to make us civilized men,
we didn't have any kind of prison. Because of this, we had no delinquents.
Without a prison, there can be no delinquents.
We had no locks, no keys, and therefore among us there were no thieves.
When someone was so poor that he couldn't afford a horse, a tent or a blanket,he would, in that case, receive it all as a gift.
We were too uncivilized to give great importance to private property.
We didn't know any kind of money and consequently, the value of a human being
was not determined by his wealth.
We had no written laws laid down, no lawyers, no politicians,
therefore we were not able to cheat and swindle one another.
We were really in bad shape before the white men arrived and I don't know
how to explain how we were able to manage without these fundamental things that (so they tell us) are so necessary for a civilized society.

I don't blame the author of that article.
Google are rapidly becoming more and more detestable than Apple+Microsoft+Adobe+(your choice) combined.
Give it enough time and type define: privacy into google and the result will be GOOGLE IS PRIVACY.
I have a gmail account. That's all I want it to be. A web based e-mail client. I don't want to be buzzed, I don't want to be waved - I don't want to be a targeted demographic.
Erm, Google makes money via adverts???
Joking aside, Google have always done 'tracking' as most ppl prefer to call it..
Google is a business, business's make money somehow so shouldn't the question be how do they do it?
Yes they scan each single GMail ever typed.. Yeah, they record each search but in all honesty, who dosn't nowadays?
Google are not responsible for every move ppl make whilst using their search engine, if you're gonna use it then thats you're own doing, no-one else's.
Sorry to inform you but this seems to be stereo-typical of todays internet users.
(No offence intended...)
Being google free is almost impossible, while you can opt out from being tracked with the google dart cookie that you get when you visit any site that runs google ads Advertising and Privacy ? Google Privacy Center , you cannot get away from being profiled by google analytics which is the stats program that almost all web sites use.
The only way to be truly google free is to not use the Internet.
If you do not want Buzz you can turn it off in Gmail, just login and go to the bottom of the page and look for "turn off buzz" note that it is in very small letters.
