Even in these recessionary times people are chucking away perfectly good and serviceable equipment.
I "Rescued" an old SONY VAIO Intel P4 laptop with 512KB RAM in it from the Tip the other day. I swapped the memory for 1GB and installed a 32 bit version of W7 just to see if it would work.
It did --It worked straight out of the box. I re-installed XP again (as I was giving the computer away) and then took it to "The Sallie Army" for charity distribution to 3rd world etc.
OK it's a HEAVY and clunky laptop that would give anybody "backache" carrying it around - even me (and I'm over 6.2 m tall and look as mean as any of those battle axe waving viking warriors) but would be very OK in a poor school who needed a computer.
So guys if you have old equipment don't automatically "Toss it". Some people can make use of this stuff even if you don't want it - especially things like laptops or even older disk drives.
