Rip hdd

Well, i've just laid my 250GB external HDD to rest. Damn thing has a mechanical problem and heats up to stupid temps & is no longer detected. Was working fine yesterday afternoon but not the evening.

To say i'm pi**ed would be an understatement as 230Gigs of it was used by Music/Software/Pictures & over 160 movies.

I was looking for an excuse to buy a 1TB drive & now I have it LOL. Better go shopping on monday.

Farewell my friend we've had some good times.

Ouch, that's rough mate.

Avoid the higher capacity Seagates if you can. They have had a very high failure rate lately.

The 1TB WD My Book has a decent rep. Whereas the WD 1TB Essential is known to have a faulty power supply.

Avoid seagates altogether. The best 1tb drive atm is still the samsung. Another one I would consider would be the WD 1tb.

I'll second that as I've never had a failure with a Samsung. That's considering that I've conservatively bought either for personal use, consulting or as an employee well over 500 drives of differing type over the years and serviced hardware with many hundred more.

I'll grant that the WD 1TB Black is faster overall but I've seen quite a few dead WD over the years.

If you do get a My Book DON'T use the WD software when you install it...
