I started listening to Metal around 1983 or so. The most memorable bands of that time for me include

Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, Dio, Judas Priest, Anthrax, Exodus, Slayer, Testament, Overkill, Suicidal Tendencies, Helloween, Death Angel, DRI, Ministry, Nuclear Assault, Prong, Pantera, and Primus.

The other weekend my son and I watched Triple X w/ Vin Diesel & Asia Argento (who plays the hot Russian chick). It starts out with this loud heavy metal, and for the life of me I can't understand a word those guys are screaming anyway, but after a few seconds I realised it wasn't even in English.
