Hey! Now slow down a minute you lot. There are a lot of people my age who have not the slightest clue what to do with a PC. They may even have been using one for the last 20 years, and still have no idea what is in the box. A lot will say Ram what's that? They're only use of a computer is to input and output data. That's it. When it comes to charges for putting Ram in to a computer it takes 5mins and costs about a £5 in reality but these stores are in the profiteering game. So they will charge whatever they can get for it.

My solution is to go to a small PC shop, they don't over charge always happy to help and will do it in no time at all because their desperate to earn your money because most people go to PC world and the like.

C'mon help the small computer shops out and give them your money.
I am not affiliated with any PC business.

The best shop in the UK for PC components is: (Private Message me) you may already have heard of them.

True i learnt myself with help from the internet and forums like this,I changed mobo boards whipped out cpu ,re pasted them slapped them back in ,,done bios updates ,,registry settings all self taught.
The web is a wondefull place to learn ur pc inside and out and what every little thing does and what drivers are, programs do and above all how to keep it running super fast.
Just a little question i buy all my stuff online as its cheaper are there any cheap good pc suppliers and components sites i dont know about!

    I like PC World

Basically, they are a useful comparison for pricing purposes, when I am quoting a private (non business), client and they Baulk at the quoted price - all I have to do is present them with the PC world price list

Do you go to the one in Newport Road, Cardiff? Not much of a shop and they are expensive when compared to DELL (Computers that is).
    Have you met John?

Thank god for that, I thought it was just me being thick. I got my first PC about 12 years ago and it had windows 95 on it. I think the speed of the processor was around 666mhz or something that is the same speed as a digital watch, the memory was 32kbit.
I used to open programs on it and never knew I had to close them down. The computer would freeze when I had four programs running. A call to my son every time would sort it out. He opened the computer to show me inside, WOW its like the Space shuttle.
Now 12 years on I can build one and load the OS. One thing I am still slow at is certain problem solving and the different types of hard drive we can use. I have found that the less you mess the better it runs.

I know the store but do not use it by choice, (or any other of their stores in the area), they provide a service for those that need it and they charge what they can for providing the service. I do the same, it's a requirement of business.

What can be annoying is the way that they diagnose by script rather than experience which means that often the customer loses out not only by paying a higher price but having a more drastic solution than is needed.

Yes a re-install to factory settings will cure most software problems, and is quick for the store and the customer, but the extra time and possible expense to return the system to how it was, normally costs far more than a proper solution

The best way out of this dilemma is to join a local computer club. That is usually very cheap and there are always enough knowledgeable people around who can help.
