I have a better shut down fail. I was restarting Mint because my screen resolution was messed up horribly and I couldn't access anything..
It showed a bright red screen and did nothing for an hour. I hard-rebooted it, and all of my data was gone. Fail.

Did you by any chance get that shutdown fail after installing the new version of malwarebytes?

This happened to me yesterday, and I was just trying to find the culprit.

occasionally i get that flashing up very briefly saying that explorer is preventing it from shutting down, but it usually disappears quickly
