Mr. Rebates

After the last 3 rebates that I qualified for never paying off, I have become wary of rebates in general. But, I came across Mr. Rebates while eBaying, which offers various amounts of rebates depending on the item purchased and the source of the purchase.

I've scanned their FAQs and found nothing unexpected...it requires a minimum of $10 and 90 days to be able to apply for payment, but since joining is free, it doesn't appear that there is anything to lose, however appearances can be deceiving. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular org.?

I get so mad when vendors don't honor their rebates. With so many good prices being reliant on rebates....it's often hard to find a truly good out the door sales price these days that don't include a rebate.

I've gotten rebates from Corsair, Gigabyte, Antec, Western Digital and EVGA in the past year or so without issue. The last company which screwed me out of a rebate was PNY on some memory years ago...and I simply refuse to buy any of their products these days.

The 3 times that I got beat out of a rebate was when buying from ZZF. I don't really know, but I think that it was ZZF that kept the money, rather than the manufacturers, because in each case, the application was sent to a location named ZZF/manufacturer's name, and it was never really clear whether it was ZZF or the manufacturer that you were dealing with. I tend to think that it was ZZF, thus I have stopped buying anything from them, rebate or not.

EDIT: Actually there was a couple of other rebate problems, which I do know were due to the manufacturers, rather than the vender. They both used the same excuse that I had not attach the barcode proof of purchase to the application, when in fact I did.

Bestbuy got to me so i don't buy anything with a rebate from them. Lately i've noticed less an less mail in rebates and some stores are actually doing the rebate for you, you still have to wait the 4 to 8 weeks for your money.

The thing that bothers me about this method, is that while I found this on eBay, it seems odd that I would do so, because it would take a sale away from eBay, which I don't like, because there is a small amount of buyer protection that is sometimes needed to resolve an issue with a seller. plus i aready get a 2% rebate in the form of eBay Bucks, that I would trade for only a 4% rebate in the particular purchase in mind. If I could still go through eBay for protection and add both percentages together, that would be the best of both worlds.

Well they are a BBB Accredited business so thats good. And they only have 4 complaints in the 36 months.

The only problem with that, is that those 4 complaints probably represent far more than 4, because a majority of people will not go to the trouble of filing with the BBB, they will just write it off as a bad experience and forget about it.

Well I decided to go ahead and give it a try. From what I've read, the worst that might happen is that I won't ever get the rebate, but with the price of the HDTV that I just ordered, that is $9.60 + $5 signup bonus that I wouldn't have gotten ordering directly....time will tell.

True, but if you look at how many people use the service, it probably is a real low percentage of disappointed customers. only 4 complaints on the BBB in the last 3 years is really really good.

I normally compare prices between Newegg and Tigerdirect when I'm going to make a purchase.
Two reasons
1. with Newegg and me living in California I have to pay I think it's been raised to about 10% sales tax on my purchase.
2. With tigerdirect I don't have to pay sales tax but then most of their prices include some kind of rebate(s) which most are done by a third party rebate company which I have had a couple of them that I never received and well just try and deal with them ha.
So I've found out to watch out for rebates and your best bet is if the rebate is through the hardware manufacturer, haven't not received a rebate yet this way and the rebate time is a much shorter wait. My 2 cents Fabe

The thing that I like about this outfit, is that while most of the rebates are small, they apply to a large number of websites, including TigerDirect, and if one must, Newegg. However, the egg's rebate percentage is currently only 1%, while TD's is 6%. While there are some larger, I have gotten this rebate on items that already had manufacturer's rebates. For someone that does as much shopping online as I do, they all add up.
