    Where is it Made?

Just a random question here - as I'm planning on my new state-of-the art system, "Best bang for your Buck" style. So, anyone know where all of these computer parts are made? ie: Which country the factory's are?

Because im planning on visiting my home-country ( good old India) and I'll be visiting Mumbai( Bombay to the rest of you) and I know there are many tech centers out their. But are there any factories? I'm hoping to build a computer ("Best bang for your Buck"), which is very cheap and has good performance still. So getting parts direct from the factory(if its possible) would be great!

I'm pretty darn sure you cannot just walk into these places and buy your components.

Even if you could get the parts over there, I doubt if customs would let you come back to the US with a built computer.

Same...you'll surely have a little chance to pass through the gate...but i doubt it would be that easy to escape the customs by those now hard time in airports!

most computers are made by acer.
    (including dell, hp... et al)
acer also sells its own brand.
acer has been around since the beginning, its producs are good.
    acer is in taiwan.

Something like 90% of electronics currently on the market are made in China.

    Hi DarkDevil, Welcome back

Almost all of the parts are made in developing countries like China, Taiwan, ... where labour is cheap.

If you want to buy computer hardware, stay away from factories... If you have the guts to go there, they most of the time will ask you "how many 40 feet containers do you want?"-kind of question. Many computer chips made in Taiwan - at least the best ones are, others - Made in China. Motherboards, Graphic Cards, Sound cards, the finished products are mostly from China (many manufacturers manufacture their products in China, cheaper they say). Go to your favorite (r)etailers, buy your computer hardware there.

Best bang for the Buck (BBftB) is different for different people, so it might be BBftB for you, but not for those corporate entities, or those CAD/CAM guys. So, buy your favorite components from your favorite (r)etailers, and make sure you get the full warranty support off them.

As others have pointed out, the vast majority of components are made in Asia and they don't have 'retail outlets' attached to any factories.

Mumbai is just a hotbed of outsourced script-reading call centres.

I think "Acer Group Family Of Brands" are: Acer, Gateway, Packard Bell, eMachines...no Dell or Hp!:)
