Move on or attempt to fix it? As some of you know, my laptop broke. What I've gathered with the help of Victor the Wise from HP (don't ask), Chris (Zidane) and Smarteyeball (Smarteyeball). The graphics on the board are fried since I can actually boot into an OS, just no display appears (Even on external).
HP's price to repair the laptop: $421 w/ taxes
Now I know I could get the board on ebay for less then $180, just want SF's opinion! | My System Specs |

My answer would be determined by the specs of the lappy. A $180 repair on an $800 machine would be worth it IMO. A $350? Probably not. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU Intel i7 2600K OC'd @ 4620 MHz Motherboard Asus P8Z68-V Pro Memory 16GB GSkill Sniper 2133 Mhz (4x4GB) Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 SuperClocked+ Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 2x Acer S273HLbmii 27" Screen Resolution 2 x 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech MK320 (wireless) Mouse Logitech MK320 (wireless) PSU Corsair HW Series 750w (modular) Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Blue Edition Cooling CM Hyper 212+ CPU cooler, 3x 230mm + 1x 140mm case fans Hard Drives 64GB Crucial M4 SSD

Depending on the age of the computer (especially if it is older), you would be better off getting a new one.

Specs are as followed;
CPU: Intel C2D T6400 @ 2.0Ghz
RAM: 2x2GB DDR2 800MHz
Graphics: Intel GMA 4500MHD, but I'd likely get the board that has nVidia graphics (it'd be compat with all my stuff)

Let's see, gonna cost over $400.00 to have HP do it (which I say no to, btw) or you can get a replacement mobo (and attempt to do the surgery yourself) off of eBay for less than $200.00?
If you're okay with with spending $200.00 on an educational project, go for it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Mother OS Windows 7 Pro 64 / Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 64 CPU AMD Phenom 8750 Triple-core (2.4Ghz) Motherboard MSI Neo 2 Memory 4 Gb - specs (currently) unknown Graphics Card XFX nVidia GeForce 8600 GT Sound Card onboard Monitor(s) Displays LG 22" LW600 PSU 600W specs (currently) unknown Case Antec P90 Cooling Air-cooled Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda ST3500320AS SATA

For $180+ I would be tempted, provided the maninboard is good. It would be worth it considering it's age and your usage for it.

The sellers have good feedback, so that's a plus.
I'd just double check that those mainboards will definitely be compatible.
