    postal question

Hello. 33 days ago I mailed an Apple Magic Mouse via snail mail (~$6 postage) from footbridge Alberta to a guy (that I'm pretty sure I can trust) in Michigan, who was going to mail me a money order for the amount.
I never received the MO, and from what I can tell he never received the mouse.
Now I think I can see the parcel taking about a month to arrive but I want confirmation, but the MO seems as if it was either lost or never sent. In the past five years I only sent four letters by postage: a standard letter to the otherside of Canada, an Xpresspost to the other ide of Canada (which was late), and a laptop to California via UPS (also late, but by a week or so). all of these arrived eventually.
So I'm wondering if anyone else who have more familiarity to mailing stuff across the border shed some light on this.

Also on the parcel I had to declare it's contents and worth, So I think it might have been stolen by one of the workers but idunno.

    sorry to hear of it.
essentially, if it's uninsured, you're pretty much out of luck.

i normally do mail stuff out / receive stuff from the US etc - no issues so far (caveat is to use insurance which hikes it up a buck or two).

Overall, the post's been rather good - but without tracking numbers (for both original package and MO), not sure what to suggest...

Any time that I'm sending anyone anything of value, whether I trust them or not, I always send it insured, and if it's not worth that cost, I at least send it with confirmation, so I know if it actually arrived as it was supposed to, otherwise, all you have is a lot of people pointing their fingers at someone else.

The US post office is at best "erratic". I used to be subscibed to my German newspaper which was sent to Florida. About one third were lost. I also get a mag from Germany. Last week I got the January, 6 edition whilst the Febr. and March editions had already arrived.
This has never happened to me in Germany - I have yet to lose the first piece of mail. in over 50 years. And the German post office guarantees 1 day delivery for 99.8 percent of the mail within the country (and that includes putting it on a plane to the US - I explicitely asked). And their actuals comfirm the objective. So it must be on the US side. I think pony express was faster - LOL.

My money would be on this. No tracking number = no accountability = free item for shifty workers.

@IceFire I am an avid biker (as in mountain bike) and there seems to be a huge biker population in Canada. I buy and ship a lot of biking stuff to and from Canada. I have had stuff arrive as short as 10 days and as long as 4 months. It all seems to be how quickly it can go through customs.
