Heh I love the way things like UI redesign is done by what was probably a single person's preference in deferance to their entire community... Paraphrasing: "We know everyone will hate it but this is the way it is". I guess stealing UI concepts from Apple is seen as more richeous as stealing them from Microsoft. (Talking about the "Window Controls" change)
Otherwise it looks nice, I'd give it a try out, but sadly none of the new distros work with our current version of VMWare due to a kernel change a couple of months ago so I'm kind of stuck on the older versions till we decide to update
keyboard didn't work for me under VMware Player 3.0.1 when using the Easy Install method. Just installed without the Easy Install wizard and things are fine.
6.5
They removed some depretiated functions in 2.6.31 (I think that was the one, a couple months ago) that both VMWare and VirtualBox were mking use of. Unfortuantely at work you use what they give you :/
Though that kind of behavior is not consistant with a "stable" kernel line. I don't know exactly when but the even/odd numbering for "stable" and "unstable" has apparently been compeltely eliminated. The number of kernel and standard kernel driver ABI breakages in the entire 2.6.x run has been shocking actually.
Still no update on any distro for soundcards. I complain about this alot and it is one of my main complaints, I have an Emu-0404 PCI and it just doesn't work with linux. ALSA keeps saying it is supported but it is not.
I don't even really mind setting up the repos and video card, DVD playback, MP3 playback and all that.
I really enjoy Linux and my wife likes it as well, but if I can't do home recording it is useless to me. I know it is Creative Labs sittin on there hands but this is one reason Linux will never be a threat. As long as manufatuers take there time realeasing the driver info, no one will see it as a viable option.
On topic though, It looks great and I may download the live disc to play around with it.
