OK, just need to vent a little.
Today, I went out and bought a Netgear RangeMax Next wireless PCI card. I get home, install the software, throw the card in my machine and...nothing. It installs as a generic network card, but picks up no wireless networks. I spend the next few hours trying everything I can think of to get it to work. Installing newer
drivers, updating the firmware etc.
Finally, I get fed up and call Netgear tech support. "What's your operating system?" Me: "Windows 7 Ultimate x64." "Oh, well, this card doesn't support 64 bit operating systems. Let me give you the model number of a USB adapter we have that does."
Frustrated, I finish up the conversation and hang up the phone. I always check the specs on a box very closely before I buy it, but thought that maybe I had missed something. So I pick up the box and look it over. Nope, nothing about being incompatible with x64.
If it's not compatible with 64 bit, PUT THAT ON THE FREAKING BOX!!!!
So, I get to spend an hour and a half on the bus/trolley tomorrow taking this back and exchanging it. Thanks for all the lost time and effort Netgear.
