    Android 2.2 5x Faster than 2.1

These days with its ever expanding army of handsets, which just passed the iPhone in U.S. market share, Google's Android doesn't need too much extra help to obtain dominance. However, Google isn't pulling any punches -- that much is obvious from early speed tests from the latest version of the OS.

I am sure glad I got a DROID. No VZW customizations to worry about. As soon as Froyo is available (and it should be shortly, b/c if these folks got it, you can bet your bottom dollar that Cyanogen and Peter Alfonso will be getting it shortly too) I am gonna install it - I cannot recall my LinPack score with Android 2.0.1 rooted, but it was also on an OC kernel - from a 550 MHz stock image I OC'd stable to 1200 MHz - 118% OC, 100% OC on the CPU rating - not bad.

If Froyo finally gets KIT working right (which, to this point, has been hit an miss) I'll be happier than a pig in mud. Seeing as I have ~150 apps installed, and I am still not using Apps2SD, and seeing as how I still have half of my available RAM (~130 MB / 256 MB), JIT is gonna mean that we can finally run the 3D Launcher2 without it going stupid on us every time we exit a memory hog app....

Time to go bug Cyanogen and Koush and Peter on Twitter to see if they have Froyo in the works yet....

If it's anything at all like the availability of 2.1 for the droid, it will probably be in September-October before you can get your hands on it for the droid at all. When it's made available at google I/O in the next couple weeks.

Lol - I was running 2.1 in Feb - remember, rooted, and I get ROMs from other places. I ain't talking the *official* availability, b/c ESE81 (2.1) builds were out at leat a couple of months ago, well before they were sent out to the manufacturers for final release.

Anyhoo, I thought you were rooted and running alternative ROMs too?

    I am, I'm running cyanogen 5.0.6.2 with bekit kernel 0.8.3 7x1000SV, oc'ed at 900MHz

I was talking about general availability worked out for the droid, but as far as I know, 2.1 hasn't even been "officially rooted" yet. And even took a while before ROM's off of 2.1 were available. At least, that I knew of.

2.1 testing phases were out there for a long while - the one that became the final frozen code was out probably a good month before release.

as for 2.1 being officially rooted, I think one of the main reasons it is not happening is that with RSDLite and an .SBF file of 2.0 / 2.0.1 you can be rooted anyway. :P

Hey people. I just picked me up the Motorola Droid on Tuesday and love it. It's absolutely a great phone. Coming from a BlackBerry. This phone is easy to use and learn. It's way user friendly. I can't wait til I can get the Android 2.2 on this phone. Right now I have the 2.1 and that's pretty fast. 3G network is a nice thing to have.
