What about all the damn oil floating around in the gulf? What's that going to be like if a category 5 hurricane rolls in?

It is going to clobber the beaches from the wave action generated by this storm.

Alex is now a Hurricane with winds of 75mph and heading due West with a land fall along the Mexican coast Wed night. It may reach 90mph before it hits.

Here is a radar shot out of Brownsville, Tx. Hurricane Center says it may be a Class 2 when it hits the coast. Tropical storm force winds go a long ways out so the Texas coast all the way to Corpus Christi is getting hit.

Lived in Galveston/Texas City (just across the causeway from Galveston) for 30+ years. Retired to Central Texas to get away from all that taping, boarding, packing, shuffling furniture, untaping, unboarding, unpacking and rearranging furniture. Luckily, it was usually for naught. Only evacuation that resulted in a direct landfall was Alicia. Only lost a couple windows and drapes that were sucked out the broken windows. Our house was on the highest street in the city, and a Victorian built up another 8' off tgeh ground, so that helped. Don't miss the hurricane season one bit and sure am glad we retired and got away from the coast before Ike. All our friends down there say it will never be the same. Much will never be rebuilt.
