A computer virus on my own home personal computer...probably hasn't happened in the last 4-5 years.

Piece of malware or spyware...maybe 1/2 dozen times in the past couple of years. Certainly nothing that I remember the names of.

One of my grand kids downloaded malware about six years ago (XP). ZA caught and blocked it trying to phone home. I cleaned it before it could become established. No infections since.

I got a virus on my machine last year about this time. It disabled media player most of the way, and wanted me to buy a program to fix it.

    ComboFix did the trick.

McAfee has done a fair decent job of keeping my PC's clean for the past half decade. That or I stopped using winamp at around the same time...

on XP = so far win32 sality

-affect all file launcher with exe extension
    -disable task manager and reg
-disable antivirus (since exe is infected)

    somehow combofix sweep it away

    on seven = trojan backdoor
-disable task manager, regedit and disable autorun of explorer.exe at startup
    (blank screen on startup)

    system restore does its job

    MHV (most hated virus)

FAKE AV'S = lame way to gain money

I picked up a virus last week, but Malwarebytes killed it :) MSE didnt know what to do with it and crashed itself.... to be fair though, thats the first virus I have had since 2003 (XP+IE6) so I cant really complain
