Windows 7 = no virus infections; seldom any adware/spyware
Vista = no virus infections; various adware/spyware
Windows XP = no virus infections on one, fake antivirus on another; a lot adware/spyware
Windows 98 = 1 virus infections which ruined the computer
I have to redo XP... I had a PC that my wife and I used a few years ago. At the time, it was the only PC in the house, so I had to make absolutely sure that it stayed virus free--basically, no surfing to the "seedy" sites. I had to obsess over the cleanliness of that PC like a hypochondriac.

I have an XP PC now in my garage. It's loaded with a few apps and a automobile troubleshooting program. I picked up a fake antivirus one day while I was surfing "seedy" sites... That's my "frankenstein" PC, meaning I'm always trying something new on this PC just to see if it would work. I eneded up swapping hard drives and reinstalling XP.

I try out everything at least once or twice. So I get viri and that kinda cr>p everyday. Over the last few weeks I have had:

    Virus 6
    Trojans 10
    Riskware 36
    And 90 intrusions all told.

I very rarely have to re-install as I find that after testing all the antivirus out there except NOD 32 I found that the only one that keeps me safe is ? No point in saying as too many people want to knock them down. If you want the answer PM me.

The other factor in this is that I get it free with my bank account. And its commercial for 3 computers. Saving me a whopping £75 a year...
