Orlando help needed

Hello everyone,

I have a mini HP laptop and can't recover a 320GB HDD without a desktop computer to access it. I was wondering if anyone here lived in Orlando that has a desktop computer with SATA connectors that would be willing to help someone out in recovering this large drive.

I know this is a strange request but at the current time its looks like my only option as I don't want to pay the large fees some repair shop will charge me to recover it when I already have software that will do it if its connected to a motherboard.

So anyone willing to help me out please

thanks in advance for any help.

If you dont find anybody that can help, maybe you could source one of these locally - USB to SATA/IDE Newegg.com - BYTECC BT-300 USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Adapter - Adapters & Gender Changers

I can access the drive via my other USB 2.5" case I have. The problem is that the software I have found will do the job but it needs to have direct access which USB won't allow, guess its some limitation of USB.

The local computer shop quoted me $85.95 unlock and at the price I could just buy another drive.

at that point you can just buy a copy of spinrite which is what i use for these kinds of problems..
the bad thing about it is that i charge too..
but if you really want/need this drive fixed we can come to an arrangement..
it might take longer (depends on the shipping)
but it should be cheaper...

totally forgot about GRC. basicly I am looking to do this via USB. The more I read today the more I am finding its locked via an ATA command and there is also thought its some chip built into the drive which means that its never going to be recovered. Either way I have Tons of software that I can use thats not the issue, the main problem is the connection to the computer. When my forensic computer finishes its work next month I can connect this drive into that and recover it just fine. I am trying to do this via USB and its failing which could be some restriction of USB. I could take apart this laptop and hook up the drive but I don't want to go that far. theres no data on it thats need recovery or anything. basicly I am bored and want to crack this drive and give it to my wife.

duh didn't ask my question, will spinrite work via USB? am on the site but can't find an answer yet

found a strong maybe LOL. Well I have a version of it in my tool collection. Will have to find it and give it a try.

yeah but not really recommended....
steve himself said that spinrite should get as much access to the hardrive as possible so that it can do its thing...
steve said that it was not really give as much freeedom as spinrite should get...
and that it was never meant for USB...
you can still use e-sata but usb as the last possible solution to connect it..

yeah spinrite couldn't access it over USB the way its needed. I have tested like 10 apps so far some claim to work but nothing has so far.

will check R-studio network edition out next.

updated
and another fail to read the drive.
