Touch will use the battery faster. Touchscreens are notorious power hogs.
That said, I have a Nano 4th gen and I don't like the new 5th gen. (the screen is too big, wheel too small for my taste)
So if I were going to buy a new iPod it would be a touch. Besides, you can get internet on the Touch. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron 1520 (Laptop)/ Home (Desktop) OS Windows 7 x64 / Same CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 / Intel Core i7 930 Motherboard Intel 945 / Asus P6X58D-E Memory 4GB / 6GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS / ASUS 1GB Sound Card Whatever Dell gave me :-( / Onboard Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" LCD / Crappy CRT Mouse Microsoft Presenter (Bluetooth) PSU N/A / OCZ Fatal1ty 550W Modular Case N/A / Antec 900 Cooling Air Hard Drives Seagate 500GB SATA; 7200 RPM / Seagate 1TB SATA; 7200 RPM |

ZuneHD!
Seriously though, if I had to choose, I would go with the nano, if you have a big music collection. If not, then I would go for the 8GB 3rd Gen. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Model #: BRMD10926 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 RC CPU Core i5-750 2.66Ghz OC'd to 3.49 Motherboard Gigabyte H55M-USB3 Memory 8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1600 with thermal monitor Graphics Card Geforce GTS 250 512MB HDMI Sound Card On Board Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays Acer X223HQ Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Gear Heads 2.4 Ghz wireless Mouse Gear Heads 2.4 Ghz wireless PSU Rosewill 700W Case Thermaltake V9 Black Edition Cooling Corsair H50 Hard Drives Samsung Spinpoint 7200 1TB

That said, I think they should have stopped building the 8GB Touch instead of the 16 GB one......but that's me. In fact, I wouldn't buy the 8GB Touch at all....I would either choose something completely different(most likely) or save up the additional $100 to get the 32GB Touch. But YMMV. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. I own a 2nd gen iPod touch, and I find that iPod touches lose battery power very quickly when surfing the web and playing games. That might be a problem if you plan to buy a touch.
The two iPods have different features, so you have to choose carefully. If you want the do-everything iPod, then get the touch, but if you like light weight, and small size, then get the nano. I find the nano pretty good actually, because it also has a small collection of simple games, and it has a video camera and radio tuner.
Here is my advice: if you want a do-everything iPod, then get an iPhone, because it gives you a few extra convenient features. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Compaq CQ40-508AU OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86, Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 CPU AMD Athlon x2 QL-65 Memory 2GB DDR2 Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 3200 256MB Hard Drives 250GB SATA 5400 RPM |

Oh, and by the way, if all you do is listen to music, then the iPod touch's battery life is more than enough. But if you play games, then three hours straight is all it takes to drain the battery. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Compaq CQ40-508AU OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86, Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 CPU AMD Athlon x2 QL-65 Memory 2GB DDR2 Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 3200 256MB Hard Drives 250GB SATA 5400 RPM |
