Top Row: Jeff Burton, Dale Jarrett, Dale Earnhardt(died on final lap at Daytona, 2001),Bobby Labonte, Kyle Petty
Bottom Row: Steve Park, Jeremy Mayfield,Bill Elliott, Ricky Rudd,Kenny Irwin Jr.(died in accident at New Hampshire during practice in 2000),Tony Stewart.
I all but gave up on nascar after Earnhardt died, it just wasn't the same, and has changed way too much since.
I liked the old school drivers(Like Earnhardt, Rudd, Elliott,Richard Petty). Most of them nowadays are all about being pretty boys and just a face for their sponsor. I miss the old days.
Yep old days are gone. Thanks for the info. I am into the fantasy racing on yahoo. Its a kick.
NASCAR is no longer "stock car" racing. It's not like it was in the early days when they actually raced basically the same cars you could buy Monday at the dealers. Now they are all NASCAR spec racing machines with shells that look somewhat like whatever brand. But a Ford isn't a Ford, a Chevy isn't a Chevy, etc.
Same way with the Indy racing league. They all have more or less the same machines, it's not like they used to be either.
I'm an old fart (72) so I can relate to the old time racers.
I am an old NASCAR fan. I used to watch the races on Daytona Beach and my dad knew several of the drivers. Some of his cousins were, ah, business associates with some of the original drivers. He also played baseball with Glen "Fireball" Roberts who got his nickname as a pitcher. I much preferred the actually stock car racing as opposed to pure race cars of today. I still follow NASCAR; but I am not the avid fan I used to be. Maybe it is just age.
When you said old Nascar fan, I thought of Richard Petty, Cale Yarbourough, Bobby Allison, Buddy Baker, Benny Parsons, Darrell Waltrip, and AJ Foyt. Lol
A Guy
I remember watching Lee Petty race along with Cotton Owens, Curtis Turner (a distant relative), Lee Roy Yarbrough, Ralph Earnhardt, Tim Flock, Rex White, Herschel McGriff, Buck Baker, and Glen Wood. I was at the Daytona Speedway when Lee wrecked on the high embankment and flipped out of the speedway. That was the end of his racing career.
My all time favorite drivers are Curtis Turner, Lee Petty, Glen Roberts, Junior Johnson, Richard Petty, Darell Waltrip, Bill Elliott and Tony Stewart.
