Have been busy with this thing called Life, mostly offline, posting a post per day. Finally time and inspiration to do some extensive SF surfing and then this bloody thunderstorm. Power was cut for about 10-12 minutes, now working again. Seems we are going to have this storm above us at least couple days more:

    (Temps degrees Celsius. 20°C = 68°F)

Anyway, after we got power back I sat down by computer and noticed the modem is dead. Thought first it's the router but it's still working, I have access to my local network (VDSL, rigs and other devices connected to router, router to modem, modem to the world).

It's absolutely, completely dead. It smells like it was burning, but I've not seen any smoke. No lights, no effing nothing Of course the normally quite fast mobile 3G connection, using Nokia phone as modem, sucks today. Getting 0.6 / 0.2 Mbps DL/UL, ping 228 ms!

What did people do before broadband connections?

    Welcome back you old fart!
Sorry to hear about your misfortunes with you connections.

People use to pick up the phone and dialed their friends( in your case there aren't any) or they wrote beautiful letters to one another.
That's what we did before broadband!

Good to hear from you, Kari. We had our daily afternoon thunderstorm and promptly lost power for about two hours. ours just came back on. Thankfully, I have a UPS.

Before broadband connections I used to go out and meet real people. I only ever once met some real Finnish people though so it's swings and roundabouts really
