    In England close male friends will often hug, especially if they haven't seen each other for a while or on parting. It's not usual to hug acquaintances or people you've just met.
    Shaking hands seems to be dying out apart from formal meetings/introductions such as a new colleague or job interviews.
    Actually , it's more usual for men to hug men than for men to hug women friends. This would be interpreted as a bit "touchy feely" or as an overture leading to intimacy.
    We're a funny lot really:)
    I agree JW there is that whole handshake protocol thing going on. I dont think I have shaken a hand in years.
    Zigzag hi....and JW.... that's great I so agree with you..

    I think well adjusted men can and do hug where ever. They can and do live all over.

    Well I guess I have to explain. The whatever bit varies by who is hugged. Was asked by a user who speaks english as a second language so in the interest of international communications I wanted to make that clear. {grin}

    Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Shaking hands carries a much higher risk of transmitting germs than a hug.

    Plus, since it's a dying art amongst some, there are some pretty piss weak handshakers out there. A lot of woman can give plenty of men a run for their money in the 'decent handshake' department.

    Sometimes you have to quickly double check you haven't grabbed their limp noodle by accident... honestly, it's liking shaking hands with a squid at times

    I agree with you Lady P! Everyone needs hugs and we should be reminded of that occasionally. More hugs makes the world a better place!
