Hi folks.
I spent days and weeks to try and find a solution for the black screen of death that i was encountering after having upgraded my OS from Windows Vista to Windows 7.
As soon as the upgrade process was over, instead of taking me back to my new Windows 7 desktop, the screen was black after the start up windows logo. I thought that it was part of the upgrade process, so i gave it half an hour before restarting my laptop just to see a completely black desktop without ANY icon or anything. The only thing that i could do was to press CTRL+AlT+DEL to bring up the windows log off/shut down menu but that was basically it. I could not by any means summon the Task Manager and i could not see any icon on my desktop (so, Prevx is pretty useless in this situation). I tried booting my Laptop on Safe Mode and it booted without any problem. Then, i disabled my display driver from Device Manager and i rebooted 7 normally and it loaded windows 7 with the custom display driver for 7, meaning that i would not get the Aero style and that my graphics card would not work at its best (but it still works).
I have read about many people complaining about this problem without actually finding a solution for their problem on threads all around the internet. If the symptoms of your Black screen of death sound identical to mine, then this solution should work.
It doesn't matter what version of display driver you have. Just load windows 7 and let the black screen of death appear. When it does appear, press and hold "ESC", the escape Key for about 10 seconds and TADA......your windows 7 desktop will load with Aero.
I ONLY joined this thread to let you guys know about my accidental "discovery". I can call it so as i have not read one single article that could resolve my problem and i have been reading articles from as far as 2009.
Let me know if this solution worked for you.
