BSOD with different reasons stated each time! Hi There,
I have made no hardware changes or anything other than windows updates recently. About two weeks ago my computer started to BSOD or freeze when playing Call of Duty occasionally. I thought it was a problem with the game or an update to the game but then it started happening in windows when surfing the net and at bootup. I have tried a system restore to a month ago but no joy. I have also updated direct x, the graphics driver and run windows memory check with nothing coming up. Startup recovery does not help neither does a system file check.
I have had the following BSOD messages
Bad pool caller driver IRQL greater...
system service exception
page fault in non paged area
referenced by pointer
I have tried swapping out ram in case that was the problem but no luck.
The system is 6 months old and running home premium 64 installed by me
4gb ram
AMD II x4 955
ssd hard drive
Regular hard drive for data storage
Attached are my files as per instructions in the other thread.
If anyone can help I would be most grateful | My System Specs

Hi, Wingnut; and welcome to the forum. Sorry you are having problems. I have looked at all three dumps. All indicate memory corruption. Out of date drivers can and do cause memory corruption and BSOD's. You have three very out of date drivers; they are XP drivers. One dump specifically blames your wireless driver for the crash. Software and hardware designed for XP and not upgraded for Win 7 is not going to run on Win 7 except in the XP mode. Update the drivers below or uninstall the software/hardware they are associated with. Quote: DSI_SiUSBXp_3_1.sys Tue Feb 06 18:15:34 2007 - Garmin ANT wireless USB stick This is ANT, the Wireless Sensor Network Solution (bottom of the page). REFERENCE_BY_POINTER (18)
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000000, Object type of the object whose reference count is being lowered
Arg2: fffffa8001b48380, Object whose reference count is being lowered
Arg3: 0000000000000002, Reserved
Arg4: ffffffffffffffff, Reserved
The reference count of an object is illegal for the current state of the object.
Each time a driver uses a pointer to an object the driver calls a kernel routine
to increment the reference count of the object. When the driver is done with the
pointer the driver calls another kernel routine to decrement the reference count.
Drivers must match calls to the increment and decrement routines. This bugcheck
can occur because an object's reference count goes to zero while there are still
open handles to the object, in which case the fourth parameter indicates the number
of opened handles. It may also occur when the object’s reference count drops below zero
whether or not there are open handles to the object, and in that case the fourth parameter
contains the actual value of the pointer references count.

Thanks guys. The Ant software is for a garmin gps watch that I bought about the same time as the problems started. I will get rid of that first. The PCI network card is unused but still installed from Windows XP days. I disabled it but I can remove it and uninstall the driver.
I think it is most likley to be the ANT software.
I will report back tomorrow. Thanks so much for your help. | My System Specs

You are welcome for the help. Any or all of those 2007 drivers can be the cause. Based on what you posted above, I would say the ANT software plays a big role. Many times disabling a device or a program does not prevent the drivers from loading. Uninstalling should remedy that. Don't forget about this driver: SiLib.sys Tue Feb 06 18:13:54 2007 - USBXpress Development Kit. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit CPU Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Motherboard ASUS P4P800-VM Motherboard Chipset: Intel 865G + ICH5 Memory 2.50 GB RAM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS Sound Card SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio (Chip) Monitor(s) Displays ViewSonic VX 1962 wm Screen Resolution 1680 X 1050 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 v10 USB Mouse Logitec optic USB Cooling Fan based Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80 GB

I just had BSOD memory managment which is a new one!
Excuse my ignorance but how do I find these drivers?
I removed the network card and then uninstalled the driver from device manager. I have uninstalled everything I can find by garmin (which was a lot!!) but I can't find anything Called anything like the drivers you think I shoud remove in device manager.
Where should I be looking?
Thanks! | My System Specs

First, look in Control Panel > Programs and Features. Look for the obsolete software and uninstall it. That should remove the drivers (sometimes it doesn't).
The next option is to navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and locate the driver files. If you have uninstalled the software, you can delete the driver. Or you can rename the driver from .sys to .old. I recommend renaming. When you reboot the driver will not load. If you cannot find a driver in the Driver folder, using Windows Explorer, do a search of your C: drive for the driver. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit CPU Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Motherboard ASUS P4P800-VM Motherboard Chipset: Intel 865G + ICH5 Memory 2.50 GB RAM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS Sound Card SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio (Chip) Monitor(s) Displays ViewSonic VX 1962 wm Screen Resolution 1680 X 1050 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 v10 USB Mouse Logitec optic USB Cooling Fan based Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80 GB

Well the BSOD's got so bad that I decided to do a clean install.
It crashed halfway through the first time with BSOD System service exception
It then would not install even after formatting the SSD it said C:/boot was corrupted. So I downloaded ultimate boot CD and did a low level format on the drive. I also ran memtest on the 1 2gb stick I have installed currently and it came back clean.
I then reinstalled windows without problem. I replaced the wireless usb with one certified for 7 as suggested.
Then I have installed firefiox, nod 32 and started to run windows updates. Only to get a BSOD halfway through the updates.
When the system is booting at one point the screen goes black and there are a couple of single pixel thick horizontal white lines running part way across the screen. I am worried that this is some sort of ram problem but memtest was clear so maybe the ram on the graphics card?
Attached is my latest log export thing. I am stumped I think this is a hardware issue but I don't know what hardware! Any ideas?
Thanks
EDIT: it just froze downloading files for the motherboard. No BSOD just a locked screen so I had to press and hold the power button to turn it off.

This dump seems to be driver caused. I find a guaranteed BSOD maker loaded on your system. Quote: Code: ASACPI.sys Sun Mar 27 22:30:36 2005 The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 8th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005). If this does not solve your problem, uninstall Eset using this removal tool: Tool. I have not known an instance of your version of Eset causing a BSOD; but I am looking at what you added before the BSOD's occurred. A rule of thumb for Win 7 - don't install any third party security programs until you have your system up and running smoothly. Initially use Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Firewall. Update the ASACPI driver above before you mess with Eset.
I find another very out of date driver loaded on your system. As mentioned before, Outdated drivers can and do cause BSOD's. Update or eliminate this driver before you mess with Eset. This driver seems to be a utility driver. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, locate the driver file and rename it from .sys to .old. Reboot and it will not load. Renaming will break whatever the driver is associated with. Quote: scmndisp.sys Wed Jan 17 02:48:03 2007 - Netgear Neutral Wireless Solution. Support Home Page. Take care of the two drivers above and see how your system runs. If you get another BSOD, try removing Eset. Post back and let us know. Quote: Error code 10D, WDF_VIOLATION. I updated one driver and renamed teh second but still had a BSOD on boot so I removed NOD 32 and so far so good.
If things continue to work then it must have been more than one issue because it BSOD'd during a clean install of windows or could that have been some sort of residual driver peoblem?
I am now stress testing with Prime 95 to see if it seems stable. It is certainly better than before so THANKS!!
I nearly went out yesterday and started buying new components because I was so annoyed!! | My System Specs | | BSOD with different reasons stated each time! problems? All times are GMT -5. The time now is 05:14 PM.
