A Rebuild Gone Bad

So I've been working on rebuilding my computer since September, I finally got it finished, worked fine yesterday. I bought a new monitor and the OS started to boot up then it froze. I restarted and nothing happened. I tried a different monitor that worked yesterday and nothing still happened.

So my dad's conclusion was that the motherboard or CPU are shot, not sure how when it worked just yesterday but I thought I would post to see if anyone has any ideas.

I'm gunna go cry in a corner now.

Thanks

Lollies,
So sorry to hear about the boot up issue. Can you boot into safe mode by hitting f8?

Several, including Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

If both monitors fail to work, and one of them worked fine before you tried the new one, then it might be that something is amiss with your graphics.

Have a look at that and see what happens.

Maybe something came lose inside. I would not give up and check all the wiring and seatings ( Dimms, graphics card, etc.). The mobo would only die if it got too much juice or if it was faulty from the start. The PSU is often at fault. If you have means to measure the output voltage, that would help.

Nothing will appear on screen at all, not even the bios boot.

Unfortunately I have nothing to test out the new GTX 580 I have on, so i don't kniw if that is the problem but I can feel/hear it running when the system is on.

I checked the cables, the power is fine, so it has to be something else. The mobo has been fine till now.

Yes everything there should be correct for the most part.

I was hoping that was not the case, since my thoughts were that the new rig possibly needed more power than you might have in there. An 850W Corsair ought to be plenty, though.

Just a thought, but you didn't forget the 4-pin connector for the CPU did you?

I thought it would be enough power, it was yesterday. I'll double check but I believe everything is connected properly.

I was going to give that a try but my dad is convinced that it is the mobo or CPU since the bios does run at start, so he didn't want me to. I'm gunna give it a try anyways.

He thought we might have screwed down the cpu cooler too tight but I'm not sure, all the lights on the mobo are on and such. I'd test the graphics card but I have nothing else to test it in unfortunately.

Is it possible the CPU blew out?

That is a tough call from here. It is, of course, possible - but not very likely. Only heat or too much electricity would do that. And from your data that sounds unlikely.
I am sure it is something very simple - question is what. Keep looking.
