Windows 7 - A Rebuild Gone Bad |

A Rebuild Gone Bad So I've been working on rebuilding my computer since September, I finally got it finished, worked fine yesterday. I bought a new monitor and the OS started to boot up then it froze. I restarted and nothing happened. I tried a different monitor that worked yesterday and nothing still happened.
So my dad's conclusion was that the motherboard or CPU are shot, not sure how when it worked just yesterday but I thought I would post to see if anyone has any ideas.
I'm gunna go cry in a corner now.

If both monitors fail to work, and one of them worked fine before you tried the new one, then it might be that something is amiss with your graphics.
Have a look at that and see what happens.

Maybe something came lose inside. I would not give up and check all the wiring and seatings ( Dimms, graphics card, etc.). The mobo would only die if it got too much juice or if it was faulty from the start. The PSU is often at fault. If you have means to measure the output voltage, that would help. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

I checked the cables, the power is fine, so it has to be something else. The mobo has been fine till now.

Just a thought, but you didn't forget the 4-pin connector for the CPU did you? I thought it would be enough power, it was yesterday. I'll double check but I believe everything is connected properly.

He thought we might have screwed down the cpu cooler too tight but I'm not sure, all the lights on the mobo are on and such. I'd test the graphics card but I have nothing else to test it in unfortunately.

Quote: Is it possible the CPU blew out? That is a tough call from here. It is, of course, possible - but not very likely. Only heat or too much electricity would do that. And from your data that sounds unlikely.
I am sure it is something very simple - question is what.
