New hardware failure...but no new hardware.

System has been running fine for some time. Today I start it up and it has an issue with "new hardware installation". Nothing has changed since yesterday. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome to SF.

I have seen new hardware identified as a result of updating the bios.

No update to the BIOS...

The BIOS haas not been touched. The hardware is the same as when the OS was installed. It was shut down one evening. On starting the next morning, there was only a BSOD. NOTHING would repair it. I am still very bewildered...

Take a look at device manager to see if there are yellow warnings.

Bsod!!

If the system would have started, that would have been my FIRST destination. However, the system would NOT start so the Device Manager was NOT available. I only posted here to get some defined input since I have been a tech since the days of DOS and Windows 3.0. The simple fixes are already gone over. I have my doubts there will be any "fix" coming here. Therefore, I have formatted the drive and started over.

This experience has not done anything for my opinion of Windows 7 or Microsoft. It appears Microsoft OS gets worse with each successive "version" since Windows 98. Do NOT try to move a Windows Vista or 7 drive from one system to another, for instance. Just another nail in the Microsoft coffin and another feather in the cap of Linux from me.

I'm an avid Windows and Linux user, myself.

So you cannot boot, even into safe mode, correct?

What about running a system repair?

And maybe there really is a hardware failure. Try booting Knoppix or Ubuntu live to see if the system comes up.
