Remote desktop causing pc to shutdown

Forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong area.

Some background. I daily use remote desktop from my laptop at my office to access my pc at home. Recently however when I attempt to connect to the PC at home, it causes it to shutdown unexpectedly. The strange part is that this only happens once. Once the pc at home reboots I can then login and stay logged in all day.

The shutdown occurs just after I login where the welcome screen just seems to hang. Obviously at this point the connection drops.

I've read elsewhere that it could be a driver issue but I haven't installed any new devices in recent times.

I can sort of live with this annoyance but if anyone has a fix I'd really appreciate some help.

Thank you in advance.

There is a free work around. Team viewer does what remote does and a whole lot more.
