freezes & crashes hey there,
first of all, sorry if this is in the wrong place. i've been reading these forums for a while and this seemed the right place. I also noticed the high level of expertise around here.
secondly, i've got a really annoying problem. always on first startup of the day my computer freezes up, requiring a hard reboot which is usually followed by "no signal" message on my screen.
i've done a memtest. when both RAM sticks are in the computer i got 800k errors in like 2 minutes but when done seperately i've got no errors so far till pass 3.
since there is no bluescreen there is no minidump (right?) atleast, i can't seem to find it
i really hope this problem will be solved
thanks in advance,
Dutchdarky
my computer specs are:
motherboard: asus m4a79xtd EVO
CPU: AMD phenom x4 955 BE
videocard: ATI radeon 5770
RAM: kingston 4GB 10600
power supply: cooler master GX550W
i got the computer in September 2010, the freezes started around December 2010

i got the computer in September 2010, the freezes started around December 2010 This means the RAM sticks are defective, you should buy new ones | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 / Windows 8 CP / Android CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 OC'd 3.08GHz Motherboard Asus Rampage formula LGA775 Memory 8GB DDR2 900Mhz Graphics Card Zotac GTX 460OC 2GB GDDR5/Asus EN9600GT 1GB DDR3 PhyX Sound Card Supreme FX2 Monitor(s) Displays AOC 22' Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Prolink keyboard Mouse Prolink optical mouse PSU Cooler Master GX 650W Cooling Cooler Master V6 + 3X fans Hard Drives 3X500GB hitachi, 2TB internal, 500GB Seagate FreeAgent, 640GB Samsung Internet Speed 1MiB/s Other Info 5.1 System + 2.1 System |

well i dont think they are, since i tested them seperately and got no errors, but when they are together they do give errors (-> motherboard?)
i still got warranty on everything in my computer so i wont buy new but i'd send them back ;P | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number home built OS windows 7 ultimate 64 bit CPU AMD phenom II x4 955 BE Motherboard asus m4a79xtd EVO Memory kingston valueRAM 2x2GB Graphics Card club 3d radeon 6970 Monitor(s) Displays samsung syncmaster2350 Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard logitec cordless desktop s520 Mouse logitec cordless desktop s520 PSU coolermaster gx650 Case cooler master elite 310 Cooling noctua nf-p12 Hard Drives samsung spinpoint f3 desktop class hd103sj

bumpy, could this be a motherboard issue instead of a RAM issue. since they work fine seperately according to memtest86 | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number home built OS windows 7 ultimate 64 bit CPU AMD phenom II x4 955 BE Motherboard asus m4a79xtd EVO Memory kingston valueRAM 2x2GB Graphics Card club 3d radeon 6970 Monitor(s) Displays samsung syncmaster2350 Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard logitec cordless desktop s520 Mouse logitec cordless desktop s520 PSU coolermaster gx650 Case cooler master elite 310 Cooling noctua nf-p12 Hard Drives samsung spinpoint f3 desktop class hd103sj

Try using your computer for a while, and then booting to Memtest86. You should not see any errors, if my guess is correct.
I suspect bad RAM; what you can do, though, is put one of the sticks in, wait overnight, and then run Memtest86 from a cold boot. If no errors, repeat with the other stick(s). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU Intel i7 2600K OC'd @ 4620 MHz Motherboard Asus P8Z68-V Pro Memory 16GB GSkill Sniper 2133 Mhz (4x4GB) Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 SuperClocked+ Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 2x Acer S273HLbmii 27" Screen Resolution 2 x 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech MK320 (wireless) Mouse Logitech MK320 (wireless) PSU Corsair HW Series 750w (modular) Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Blue Edition Cooling CM Hyper 212+ CPU cooler, 3x 230mm + 1x 140mm case fans Hard Drives 64GB Crucial M4 SSD

If you wanted to be thorough, you can try switching the slots as well; however, I suspect bad RAM anyway. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU Intel i7 2600K OC'd @ 4620 MHz Motherboard Asus P8Z68-V Pro Memory 16GB GSkill Sniper 2133 Mhz (4x4GB) Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 SuperClocked+ Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 2x Acer S273HLbmii 27" Screen Resolution 2 x 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech MK320 (wireless) Mouse Logitech MK320 (wireless) PSU Corsair HW Series 750w (modular) Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Blue Edition Cooling CM Hyper 212+ CPU cooler, 3x 230mm + 1x 140mm case fans Hard Drives 64GB Crucial M4 SSD

small update:
RMA'd the whole system as they put it together and they wanted to test it in original setup. they claimed to have found nothing so they sent the system back without any changes. however, the freezes are gone

What can we say, other than "glad to hear it"?
Perhaps they reseated the RAM or something; we'll probably never know. Hope it stays that way! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU Intel i7 2600K OC'd @ 4620 MHz Motherboard Asus P8Z68-V Pro Memory 16GB GSkill Sniper 2133 Mhz (4x4GB) Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 SuperClocked+ Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 2x Acer S273HLbmii 27" Screen Resolution 2 x 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech MK320 (wireless) Mouse Logitech MK320 (wireless) PSU Corsair HW Series 750w (modular) Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Blue Edition Cooling CM Hyper 212+ CPU cooler, 3x 230mm + 1x 140mm case fans Hard Drives 64GB Crucial M4 SSD
