The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1

Hello to everyone, I Just want to confirm something,
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and not encountering any freezing nor BSOD, but everytime I check the EVENT VIEWER it annoys me to see the error message "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1" ... I check the disk manager and from what I see in there my primary harddisk is located in channel0/Disk 0 while Disk1 is from my removable USB flash drive.
Does that mean the one mentioned in the EVENT was just actually my flash drive? Why was it called a harddisk???

Please someone confirm this for me because I'm getting paranoid if my harddisk is already starting to fail.

Thanks for any helpful reply...

driver detected error

I have the same problem. In my even viewer it says "The driver detected a controller error on\Device\Harddisk1\DR1"
This error appears about 15 times a day. I dont have anything wrong with my computer at the moment and I am worried that this is going to cause a problem or already is a problem. What could it be and how do I stop it?:(

It could be a few things. You may have a bad connection to and from one of your hard disks. If you open up Start Menu -> Computer -> Right click on the C: drive -> Click Properties -> Click the Hardware tab -> And see which device has location 1, that will indicate where the problem lies. Post a screenshot of the hardware with location 1.

Thank you for your reply and trying to help me. I have done as you said and It is the actual Internal Harddisk drive which is in Location 1. It is called ST3500418AS 500Gb. It also says that this device is working properly. Why do I keep getting these errors in event manager?
Could this be a possible cause as to why I cant do any back ups, it always times out and says back up not successfull?

Possibly. Do you have any exclamation points/error icons in Device Manager? To get to Device Manager: Log in as an administrative user -> Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager

Also, please update your system specs in your profile (not in a post in this thread). http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html will help with filling in your system specs. If you have a computer built by a vendor, also include the name of the vendor (HP, Dell, Sony, Toshiba, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS, etc.) and the model of the system.

Download and install the above. If it is already installed, go into Device Manager and uninstall it.
  1. Download the driver and save it where you will remember the location.
  2. Log in as an administrative user.
  3. Click Start Menu.
  4. Click Control Panel.
  5. Click Hardward and Sound.
  6. Click Device Manager.
  7. Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
  8. Right click the Intel Controller.
  9. Click Uninstall (do not hit ok in the dialog box that pops up).
  10. Put a tick in the box to Delete the driver software for this device.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Restart the computer if asked to do so.
  13. Install the driver you downloaded.

Feeling a bit apprehensive about this, please re-assure me. If I uninstall the driver on the intel storage will i still be able to use the computer to reinstal the new one? Everything the computer uses is on the hard drive. Im worried it might completely freeze the computer. Will the computer still run ok after installing the new driver?

Uninstalling should not affect your system adversely. If you are apprehensive, create a restore point before uninstalling. Same is true for installing the new driver. It also should not affect the system adversely.

Thank you very much for the help Writhziden :D

Was pretty pi.... off about the problem so I uninstalled all of the ATA controllers plus the Intel AHCI SATA Controller where I opted for deleting the driver as you said.

I then rebooted and used the last original Intel driver set from the computer manufacturer.

No errors since!

Thanks,
Laurus
