Microsoft Management Console error...

I am not able to run Disk Management or Device Manager, I get the following error:

Attachment 169153

If I ignore the error I get this:

Attachment 169154

The problem signature says:

Application Name: mmc.exe
Application Version: 6.1.7600.16385
Application Timestamp: 4a5bc808
Fault Module Name: MFC42u.dll

I've tried searching for a solution to this problem but can't find one. If mmc.exe has become corrupted would it be possible to copy the file from an old drive I have laying around that still has a Windows 7 installation on it?

Hello and welcome to SF!

I'd do a repair install: Repair Install

Or, if you want to try something quick and safe first:
Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW

Read here for more information SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Thank you, I will give the system file check a try tonight. if I can at least get Disk Management up and running so I can access my new storage HDD (it's not showing up in Explorer) I will be satisfied. If I get that far I'm just going to back up some files and do a clean install.

If it does not work immediately in Normal mode, boot in Safe mode and try again...

System file check found corrupt files but could not fix them. When I run the command to create the scan result details text file I get the response:

FINDSTR: Cannot open Durden\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

I dug through CBS log and it looks like it found a good number of files that it tried to replace, with no luck. I will give it a go in Safe Mode as you suggested. If that doesn't work I may go for a clean install after I dig out another hard drive that is already formatted that I can back some files up with. I will post tomorrow with the results.

Thx for the update and lets hope the fix works... however, though a matter of personal opinion, I find I feel more comfortable with a clean install (knowing I have great backups) than continuing with a system which didn't repair very easily with SFC.

Agreed, I just had a problem last week with a corrupted ACPI.sys file that prevented Windows from booting. I think it's time for a clean install. Thank you for your help!
