Hi,

I was wondering if someone can help me out with a lot of BSOD's (about 27) over the past year with these two in common for all:

On Thu 8/11/2011 3:29:51 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\081111-23961-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: dxgkrnl.sys (dxgkrnl+0x6F63)
Bugcheck code: 0x100000EA (0xFFFFFA8005067B60, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER_M
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys

On Thu 8/11/2011 3:29:51 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0x310A2)
Bugcheck code: 0xEA (0xFFFFFA8005067B60, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys
product: ATI Radeon Family

I've checked and the video drivers are 8.635.0.0 from 2009, windows hardware comp pub, haven't updated to 8.881 which shows as latest in amd's site. ran memtest, prime 95 and OCCT for a couple of hours and it doesn't crash, it just happen randomly. Before I try updating the driver i just wanted to be sure thats the issue.
Attached are the requested files.

Specs:

Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit SP1 - OEM
HP G61
3Gb Ram
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200
Install is a bit over a year old.

Thanks

Hello Netimports, welcome to SF!

You do need to update the graphical drivers. Can't guarantee that will solve all but need to be sure it is not the drivers.
Please follow: ati driver

If, after this, problems remain, please check all energysaving settings and turn those off, as a test.

Most of your crashes involve a WarrantyWare.... any feedback on what software that is?

I also suspect there are problems with your Norton installation. If, after the above, problems remain:
As a TEST, remove Norton:
Please see these links for uninstalling your AV:
Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software - ESET Knowledgebase
or here

Ultimate Collection of Uninstallers / Removal Tools for All Popular Anti-Virus Software - Tweaking with Vishal

Then reboot.
Sometimes these uninstallers do not remove all they should out of Registry:
Run CCleaner, both regular and registry.

Next install your preferred AV immediately. Try Avast! or MSE for free until stable.

thanks MvdB, I've updated the ati drivers to the latest one now, and that warrantyware is some software from walmart, its been uninstalled.

karlsnooks, yes its random that's why i haven't seen it in over a week. And those drivers you mentioned that need updating, they are listed under non-pnp/hidden and i've searched for updated drivers for it on hp and on the net and can't find them, tried adaptec's website and no luck there, just some pdf's no downloads for those particular drivers that i can see.

Thx for posting back, time to wait and test. As for the drivers, I checked, and though Karl is right to be concerned because of their age.. these are the correct ones.

Did you update the ATI driver?

If yes, where did you get the update?

Run, and leave running Driver Verifier, until you get a bsod.

Until problem source is located, 100% remove your present anti-virus, any any spyware, any wonder-working tools and install and use Microsoft Security Essentials. Link in my sig.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html

Since this is a very intermittent problem, we should not ignore the influence of temperature. Install and use either coretemp or Speccy (link in my sig).

yes the ati drivers were updated to 8.881, downloaded from amd.com
I'll uninstall norton and any other services that are non-essential, and will use mse for now and will enable driver verify.
In terms of temps, i monitored it while i was stress testing for 24 hours and did not see any abnormal results, low load at ~48-55 degrees, during stress ~65-68 degrees.

Excellent. Temps are in order. In one sense a pity, then we'd know how to proceed.
