Laptop Freezes/Crashes After 30 minutes Idle Time Hi All, A little stumped...
My laptop has been working fine up until now. It was only purchased November last year so not even a year old yet.
When it's left idle for more than 30 minutes it freezes up and crashes, can't do anything with it, have to hold the power butting to power down and reboot.
Highly annoying as it can't just be left and means I have to keep it busy when streaming films and music.
Has anyone got any fix or advice on this one?
Found a few other threads with people having a similar problem but no fixes.

Hi Bobbie, welcome to 7F
You could try, and go to >Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options and create an Always On Power plan that you would have to switch to before you go off to do other chores or errands.
But, there could be bigger problems here, and I would suggest that you run http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html so we can get to the cause of your problem. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway DX4831e OS Win 7 Home Premium 64bit Ver 6.1.7600 Build 7601 - SP1 CPU Intel i3 530 2.93GHz, 2933MHz 2 Cores 4 Logical Processors Motherboard Gateway H57M01 133 megahertz Memory 6GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM Graphics Card 32MB Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD IGChip Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Gateway HX2000 20inch TFT active matrix TN Screen Resolution 1600 x 900 x 59 hertz Keyboard MS 'Natural' Standard PS/2 Enhanced 101-102 Key Mouse Gateway USB wired optical PSU Knowing Gateway it is probably just a 300watter. I have created the 'always on' power option, seems to have rectified the issue I was having.
Have no idea why it started though, as I had been through and change the settings on the 'balanced' power option to make sure that the computer never turns it's self off or enters sleep or hibernation unless the battery level drops to 5% or less, which never happens as I get the audio warning when it hits 10%... Strange, but it's fixed.
thanks for the help | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number TOSHIBA OS Windows 7 |

Your welcome, I am glad that worked for you.
I still have reservations though.
It could be the streaming program your using, is it a third-party app?
And, even though your battery seems to working okay, you may want to consider a new one. Quote: HOW LONG SHOULD MY BATTERY LAST?
The life of a rechargeable battery operating under normal conditions is generally between 500 to 800 charge-discharge cycles. This translates into one and a half to three years of battery life for the average user. As your rechargeable battery begins to die, you will notice a decline in the run time of the battery. When your two-hour battery is only supplying you with an hour's worth of use, it's time for a new battery. I tried to find battery information at Newegg, but could not.

If you have the time, and are still curious, one way to check if it is the streaming program or any other program you have installed since you purchased your laptop is to use msconfig, and clean boot the OS to troubleshoot the services, especially any that reference to the streaming program.
How to do it is here: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway DX4831e OS Win 7 Home Premium 64bit Ver 6.1.7600 Build 7601 - SP1 CPU Intel i3 530 2.93GHz, 2933MHz 2 Cores 4 Logical Processors Motherboard Gateway H57M01 133 megahertz Memory 6GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM Graphics Card 32MB Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD IGChip Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Gateway HX2000 20inch TFT active matrix TN Screen Resolution 1600 x 900 x 59 hertz Keyboard MS 'Natural' Standard PS/2 Enhanced 101-102 Key Mouse Gateway USB wired optical PSU Knowing Gateway it is probably just a 300watter. I dont use any 3rd party streaming apps...
I have simply shared the folders on my laptop to pick up my media files on my xbox.
Also sometimes use windows media centre for supported web content i.e. youtube to stream onto the xbox as an extender.
Couple of days with no freezing now, as opposed to doing it several times a day... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number TOSHIBA OS Windows 7 |
