0x116 Facebook only

I hate to have my first post be a "please help thread", but I have been searching for quite some time and have not made any progress. I have been getting the 0x116 (Video Driver) crash ONLY while on Facebook. I have yet to receive a BSOD elsewhere. Some times I can stay on FB for over 10 mins without the BSOD, other times its ~30 seconds. I already ran the system diagnostic report; that found nothing.

For 90% of the time I have owned this laptop, I have not seen any problems. This only started a few weeks ago. I don't recall installing any software/hardware around that time. If you need any more info, please ask.

Note: I have the latest driver, tried reinstalling the latest driver, and using an older driver and didn't notice a difference.

Laptop:
Gateway M-6846
Came with vista, installed 7 when it came out.
No other problems.

I have this page favorited and replies instantly sent to my email so I will be checking by quite a bit.

Updates:
So I ran furmark as listed in the instructions in the link you provided and received the same bsod 0x116 I have been getting. It only took like 5 seconds from the beginning of the test. This doesn't sound like a temp problem to me because it didn't even have time to get up to temp. Am I mistaken? Any further advice? Thanks for your help so far.

Edit- I am also running the system file checker now.

Update- System file checker did not find any problems.

Also tried a bunch of different hardware monitoring software and none of which gave me the option to monitor my gpu temps. I am assuming I do not have the ability; or am I doing something incorrectly?

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps Let us know if you need help
